Ping Control

I have a question about "ping control" with regard to the pingback feature.  When we post to the blog, it will ping the services that we checked in configuration.

We don't want to have it ping those services again, each time that we edit a posting.  Does it "re-ping" when we edit?  If so, has anyone solved it?

Thanks

No, we'd have to keep track of every ping services lastpingtime for every post and the multiplication gets pretty big fast.

Thanks for the reply.

As it happens, we have discovered that WordPress has a plugin which does it, so for the blogs that were an issue we have used it.  Still using dasB for our others though, and enjoying it.

The plugin is called Smart Update Pinger and the description is:

"Smart Update Pinger - replaces the built-in update ping functionality. Instead of always pinging when saving a post, the plugin only pings when the post has not previously been published. Edits of posts are "silent", in contrast with the default behaviour."

Finding it handy, so that we don't "over-ping" and annoy any search engines.
