Can dasBlog support Gmail SMTP?

I'm finding that if I check dasBlog's "Send using SSL" configuration option, testing my SMTP server (at Gmail) generates this error:

SmtpError:

while processing Server does not support secure connections.

But if I uncheck it, testing my SMTP server generates this error:

SmtpError:
while processing The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. 5sm3509958agc.15.

Is this because dasBlog doesn't support TLS, only SSL?
